Who and What is Del Sol?
Del Sol's buyers travel abroad seeking limited production craftspeople, who, without the cooperation of Del Sol, would be unable to begin exporting. By working directly with these small family-run businesses, Del Sol is able to offer its customers exceptional value and quality, and exclusive designs.
In working so closely with these businesses, we are able to ensure that the craftspeople receive fair pay and decent work conditions. We feel that by working with these enterprising yet struggling artisans, we are helping to build a better global community.
In 1977 one of the founders of Del Sol took a trip from Santa Rosa, Ca to Guatemala City, Guatemala via bus through Mexico. In those days he used a book, Mexico and Guatemala on $5.00 a day which was not difficult to do in those days. Hotel rooms were often less than $2.00 a night. It was on this voyage that the foundation of Del Sol was built. After spending countless hours in the homes of craftspeople and in the markets of Todos Santos, Guatemala, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Totonicipan, Guatemala, Chichicastenango, Guatemala, and several locations in Mexico he was able to for see the framework of the current business they operate.
